The Wrapping Vapor

The Wrapping Vapor

The Wrapping Vapor will obscure your vision.

The reason justice is blind.

The Wrapping Vapor held the coveted title of Current Champ from Wednesday, December 19, 2007 to Thursday, December 20, 2007, heartily vanquishing Alarm Angel to earn it. Unfortunately, brutal defeat came soon after, at the merciless hands of Hurricandy Cane.

This hero's magnaminous likeness was captured at the moment of glorious triumph by Sutter .

Audience

Quotes overheard while standing in the crowd that gathered to watch the carnage…

  1. The comics are still good.. But they're not getting any better

    Khalid | [ a ]
  2. Well, perhaps someday we'll meet your standards.

    Anyway — excellent reply, Sutter!

    bearskinrug | [ a ]
  3. There's something cathartic about tearing through wrapping vapor. I'd feel bad about tearing through this one, though - it looks so nice!

    Justin | [ a ]
  4. These Christmas pun heros continue to impress. Clever lads!

    Rob Weychert | [ a ]
  5. This guy looks pretty tough to beat... I like the holiday spirit though.

    DEADPOOL | [ a ]
  6. Oooh.... Spoooky! Heh heh, I love this Christmas theme.

    IGPDavid | [ a ]
  7. What no Hanukkah love?
I love the face on this one, very sinister!

    TheJones | [ a ]
  8. That was quite creative! I didn't see that coming... impressive.

Also, seeing as Kevin and Sutter have not responded to the comment I made asking if they mind if we attempt to come up with our own heros, I will assume it's ok. (If that's not the case, then, by all means, post and let me know and I shall certainly stop).

Vapor can't obscure vision with Rudolph's nose, the Guiding Light, up in front. :-)

    Keyser520 | [ a ]
  9. Khalid: I'm sorry to see you won't be visiting our site anymore but can you leave a little less obnoxiously?

    sutter | [ a ]
  10. Superest is the highlight of my day, and like other posters, I obsessively check the site to see if Kevin, Sutter, and their guests have posted a bonus Super. If other people think they can do better, I'd love to have another clever site to visit.

    Catherine | [ a ]
  11. lol, you guys are awesome.

I'm enjoying your work more and more sutter (been looking at Kevin's work for a while, now I'm checking you site out constantly as well!)

You guys amaze me... keep up the awesome work (and happy holidays)

next hero... Rudolph's Nose (AA batteries not included)

    Officialsidekick | [ a ]
  12. Officialsidekick: Don't check my site too often. This site has been monopolizing a lot of my time and I've been neglecting my other site(s). :)

    sutter | [ a ]
  13. This is suberb.

But I think it's probably a fluke. You guys should probably start spending more time getting better. Everyone's saying it.

    Pierce | [ a ]
  14. Sutter this is so awesome! I love the way you drew the vapor trails off the letters. It really looks like...well, vapors!

    Good luck Kevin!

    niff | [ a ]
  15. I love the wrapping paper smell. It reminds me of my favorite Christmas– the year we got an Apple Plus. OS 6, baby!

    Iancorey | [ a ]
  16. I'm...baffled as to why people are complaining that you aren't "getting better". I love The Superest, it is certainly one of the highlights of my day. You should make some of them into t-shirts!

    Anne | [ a ]
  17. And I want the Alarm Angel Tote bag for Christmas!!!!

    M.M.  | [ a ]
  18. I was confused about that too Anne, but Pierce (above) apparently has the skinny. The guys have contracted some kind of parasite. A fluke? Anyway, I agree, they should definitely spend some time resting and get better. Pierce is so thoughtful!

    Joachim | [ a ]
  19. I can't agree more with Anne, or disagree more with Pierce and Khalid. To say that "everyone's saying it" is stupid, offensive and wrong. And to think that you have any grounds to come to a site that is clearly developed for fun and entertainment - which it succeeds at brilliantly - and all but posit that you could do better yourself is just offensive.

Kevin and Sutter make my day, day after day, and I'm happy to associate their names with Ryan North, J.Jacques, Lore Sjoberg, Randall Munroe and a few others, whom I look to every day to get a great laugh. Their work has improved - despite not needing to - since they started, and there is no need for any "constructive criticism" of any sort.

Sutter, Kevin, I'm sorry for such a long post, and one that's potentially argument-starting, but I think it's more appropriate for a fan to defend your work than for you to have to. You shouldn't waste your time with people who make covertly hostile, passive-aggressive comments like "everyone's saying it".

Cheers, keep up the fantastic, fun work!

    Heinyken | [ a ]
  20. Haha, "Fight Evil!" indeed!

    Heinyken | [ a ]
  21. Thanks very much, Heinyken (and Anne and Joachim).

In defense of Pierce, I'm pretty sure he was being sarcastic. He's a welcome regular on my other site :D

    bearskinrug | [ a ]
  22. Maybe the Wrapping Vapor is Khalid's roomate?

    burt | [ a ]
  23. I think all this controversy is going to develop into a great superhero.

    iancorey | [ a ]
  24. Defeated by: The Son of Good.
He uses his white-hot beams of photons to burn through even the thickest mist...

    jeffperado | [ a ]
  25. Sorry, I meant Sun of Good.

    jeffperado | [ a ]
  26. It's the sign of a good game when everybody wants to play. Like Marbles.

    ian | [ a ]
  27. Every time someone on the internet has to explain they were making a joke a clown loses its wings. :(

    Pierce | [ a ]
  28. Giant leathery batwings which honk menacingly in the rafters of the Big Top...

    ian | [ a ]
  29. Another good one.

    lol @ Pierce

    Alexander | [ a ]
  30. Dammit, my comment disappeared without being posted...

Well, the long and the short of it was, "oops". Sorry, Pierce. I had gotten the feeling you might have been being sarcastic, but I wasn't sure.

And I'm glad the damn winged clown lost his wings -- damn flying clowns.

    Heinyken | [ a ]
  31. I wonder if some ingenius artist could create a superhero that in one fell swoop vanquishes the previous super hero, and those ignoramus dissenters who can't see "better and better" for the haze fogging their own view.
